A Sad Day

I have just learned that Pappy Dillon has passed away.Our thoughts and prayers go out to Kathleen, Johnny and Margaret.The world has lost one of the greatest and is a lesser place today.

Greetings to the World Wide Galvin Clan from the Reunion Committee!

Well, we had our Final Reunion Meeting last night. Our plan was to tally up the last of our expenses, make arrangements to pay them and officially close out our books.

Much to our surprise, we were told that an envelope had been left by "The Killorglin, San Francisco,Florida and Ferris Cousins". The envelope was opened during our meeting. We were all stunned at the extremely generous monetary gift that was enclosed. There was a wide range of emotions and great discussion was had as to how to handle this unexpected windfall.

There is no doubt that there was going to be an outstanding balance left once the final expenses were totaled. We used "the Windfall" to pay off the last of all outstanding expenses. Due to your generosity, our books could be officially closed and certified as closed by our accountant, Mary.

We are also thrilled to report that there was a surplus left after all the bills were paid. The Committee discussed it at great length and we decided that we would use that amount to permanently memorialize our first World Wide Galvin Reunion. We will purchase a brick at Buffalo's Famine Memorial on our Waterfront and have it inscribed as follows:

"World Wide Galvin Reunion
Buffalo, NY
June 2008"

We are completely overwhelmed by your generosity. We want to thank each and everyone one of you. We are so happy that you were able to come and spend some time with us - though all agree that the time was too short.

A poll has been taken, and it's unanimous - the World Wide Galvin Reunion exceeded everyone's expectations. Everyone had a great time and we have the pictures to prove it.

E-mail addresses have been exchanged and promises have been made to stay in touch. Let's see to it that we do.

Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity and for helping to make our Reunion such a great success!

Tis a sad day for sure,after leading at the half, Kerry 1-8 Cork 0-3, Kerry lost the Munster Cup on7/6/08.This will only make it feel that much better when Kerry wins the All Ireland again this year.

Minor Pickup Changes

Things are falling together nicely, two things on the arrivals James and Maureen will be picked up by Mike and Sue McCafferty, Pat Galvin will be picked up by Sean Clark, if you don't know who will be gathering you up look for the Galvin Family Reunion sign.Departures are the same but some of the times are changed because of flight changes, the group going out on Monday to Toronto will be picked up at 7:30 am.we will have a master list of departures and times when you get here so if you have any questions just ask myself, Mike Mccaffery, Tim Clark or Bob Bogner as we are the transportation committee.A couple of reminders it will be warm they are telling us while you will be here 78 Degrees or better so bring sunscreen they have a pool at the hotel so bring your suits and lastly the Banquet on saturday nite is semi formal no denim or jeans.There will be more reminders i am sure, see you all soon.

Departures

I hate to talk about leaving but we have a list of departures and how eveybody is gettig ther so i will give thenm to you now so there is no confusion later.
6/29 The Ferris's willbe taken to the Buffalo Train Station Sunday by Robert Bogner in time to catch your 10:00 am train hate to see you miss the Mass and the picnic.
6/29 The Gannon group of 4 will be taken to the Buffalo airport by Mike McCafferty in time to catch there 3:42 departure time, you will have to leave about 1:15.
6/29 The Catherine Woods group of 9 and the James Galvin group of 6 will be picked up at the hotel at 5:00pm in a 24 passenger bus for the trip to your hotel in Toronto.We have made no arrangements to get you to the airport the next day
6/30 The Kathleen McKenna group of 9 will be picked up at the hotel at 10:00 am in a 14 passenger van for there trip to the Toronto airport for there 3:40 flight.
6/30 The Ann-Marie Galvin party of 4 will be will be picked up by myself at the hotel at 12:15 for there flight at 2:55 out of Buffalo
7/1 The O'Connor party of 5 will be picked up at the hotel at 7:15 by Tim Clark for your 10:05 flight
Teresa Galvin and Nita Galvin we will get you to Toronto airport on the 3rd and to Buffalo airport on the 5th in time for your flight.
Joe Galvin and John Dillon we will get you where you need to be when you need to be there

Events Schedule

Thursday June 26th

Gathering day at Riley Street Station (The Official Reunion Pub) We will meet in the lobby at 6:45 for a short walk to the pub.A light supper will be served and a cash bar.

Friday June 27th

Bus trip to the Basilica and Niagara Falls (Ameriacn side) if you would like to go into Canada you can walk over the Rainbow Bridge, you will need to bring your passport.We will meet in the lobby at 9:45 and the bus will leave at 10:00 and return to the hotel around 6:00,things to do at the Falls include, jet boat rides ,Maid of the Mist,Cave of the Winds and of course tha Casinos.Friday evening is free to explore on your own.

Saturday June 28th

We will meet in the lobby at 9:30 and catch the bus and head off to see a model Train Display and then off to the Horse Ranch Trip at Tim and CeCe's make sure to bring a bathing suit for a swim in the pond and some sunscreen as itis already in the 80's here.
The other options for Saturday include a local Art Festival,The Millard Fillmore House,Fisher -Price Museum and Store and of course shopping a( a experienced guide is available.

Saturday Evening we will be going to The Crag Burn Country Club for dinner, we will meet in the lobby at 5:30 to take a short ride on the bus to the Club and will return at 11:30.Babysitters have been arranged for for the children not going to the dinner ,they are girls we know and the children will be in good hands.

Sunday June 29th

We will be having a family Mass at Immaculate Concepton Church, a short walk from the Hotel to be followed by a picnic at Hamlin Park very near the church.We will be serving hot dogs and hamburgers,potato salad, baked beans, a typical american picnic with games for all ages.

The transportation to all the events will be a 47 passenger bus it is not a school bus its a little nicer than that, it does not have bathroom on it. We will also have plenty of cars available to take you were ever you would like to go.

Transportation

We have a lot of information to pass along,i will start with the pickups first.Wed.June 25th we have a 29 passenger bus to pick up 19 people at the Toronto Pearson airport at 12:45pm and to be taken to the Hampton Inn East Aurora you will be met by Mary Mc Cafferty, Maureen Mc Caffertyand myself.I will stay at the airport and greet the group of four coming in at 3:05 and drive them back by car.The Woods group will be arriving on Air Canada flight #895 and the Ann-Marie, Margaret Galvin with Aoife and Orlaith Renolds will be on British Airways Flight #BA0093.Karen McCafferty has told me that the British Airways flight might change it will not be a problem just keep us posted.The O,Connor party of 5 will be picked up in Buffalo at 2:25 by Tim Clark, i do not have the flight # in front of me but we do have it .
Thursday June 26 th the McKenna,Gannon, Galvin,MacSweeney group will be picked up at the Buffalo Airport @3:15 by Mike McCafferty Jr.Flight#6199 Freedom Airlines.
James and Maureen Galvin will be picked up at the Toronto Pearson Airport @6:00 pm on British Airways flight #ba99 by myself and Sean.
Richard and Fran you will be picked up at the Buffalo Bus Station by my son Craig and my daughter Nicole @6:20pm
That should cover all the arrivials except for Joe Galvin but i don,t have that information yet but there won't be a problem.
Please let me know if anything changes so we can adjust or plans.
We have also secured transportation for our trips to the Basilica and the Falls on friday and our trip to the horse farm and the Crag BurnCountry Club for dinner on Saturday , proper attire is required( no jeans on denim of any kind ,Sunday best) ,i will be posting a more detailed itenerary later this week.We have two babysitters lined up for saturday nite .

May Day

Just a quick note about the reunion we will be having a meeting on the 7th and will be sending details but just a little tease for now.We have arranged transportation to get everybody from the airports and train station to the hotel and back to the airports and bus station.Sunday the 29th of June we will be having a family picnic after the mass at 11:15. thats it for now more details in a week or so.

Congradulations to Maureen Leonard she gave birth to a bouncing baby boy on 3/31, weighing in at 7lbs 8ozs, name to be determined at a later date. Niagara Falls

After putting all the information together that we gathered from the questionaires, and thank you Karen and Mary Mc Cafferty for doing such a grand job of it,i have already put up some information about Our Lady Of Victory Basilica and national shrine also known as Father Bakers.We will be going there Friday June 27th then after that we will head to the Falls.Transportation will be arranged for the trip.We will be going to Niagara Falls U.S.A. it is a five minute walk across the Rainbow bridge for those how would like to go there(passport required).There are plenty of things to do on the US side.Here is a web site you can check out with some of the things, we highly recommend The Maid of The Mist and the Cave of the Winds.The

I can't belive it's been a month since i last posted but it has and i don't have a lot to report .The buffalo branch has had a meeting about the upcoming reunion and are getting very excited about it all.We are almost done with a questionnaire and will be sending it out very soon(when will you be coming in ? where? etc.)you get the idea.

Happy New Year to all may this find everybody well, i hope you all had a Merry Christmas.There hasn't been much to post and with the holidays and all,but now it's back to business.The reunion is only a little over six months away and we (the buffalo branch)have been working on a few things and will be sending out a list of questions shortly to help us plan the event,ex. who would like to go to the falls who needs transportation etc.I will be posting that information here and sending it to you e-mail address.thats it for now
